KAT holds face-to-face UN Celebration

After two years of celebrating virtually the United Nations Month, Katipunan sa Agham-Tao (KAT) spearheads a face-to-face culminating activity at Capiz State University–Pontevedra Campus, on October 27.

Anchored on the theme Our Planet, Our Future, CapSU Pontevedra commemorates responsibilities toward raising global awareness in protecting nature for future generations.

The celebration started with a grand parade around the school campus where students showcased their national costumes.

Prof. Michael Bañas, guest speaker, shared that just like a plant, KAT was a small organization they built before when he was a student leader at the same university, but now, it continues to grow and serves as a platform for raising environmental awareness as this year's UN theme.

"It's so amazing to think that the seed we planted 10 years ago, now prospers and continues to bear fruits. As an educator at alagad ng Katipunan sa Agham-Tao, seeing these future professionals and leaders who strive for excellence, and world stability and learn to respect and collaborate - I can see hope for this country," Prof. Bañas stated.

National Dance Contest hyped the audience with live stage performances from different colleges and departments performing national dance and wearing national costumes of their chosen countries.

Chister Bryll Tidong, KAT President, thank the people who made the celebration successful despite the rainy weather.

"This was never easy, but because of all your support and participation, we made this possible. I thank you all for being here despite the rainy weather we experience. As what Hellen Keller said, alone we can do so little; together, we can do so much," Tidong said in his Words of Gratitude.

Dr. Edwin Daliva, KAT Adviser, stated during his closing remarks that he is beyond delighted to conduct a face-to-face UN celebration again, after two years.

The celebration ended with the announcement of the winners of the National Dance Contest, where CAPEDS of the Bachelor of Physical Education bagged 1^st Place followed by the DIWATA of the Bachelor of Secondary Education - Science as the 2nd Placer and Hospitality Management as the 3rd Placer.

Capiz State University Pontevedra Campus holds a joint team-building activity, and Faculty and Employee Appreciation Day with a theme, “Pagpaambit kag Paghiliusa: Isa ka Pamilya nga Nagabuylog kag Naga-ululupod para sa Serbisyo sang Tagsa-tagsa,” on September 29, 2022, at CapSU Pontevedra gymnasium.

Dr. Honey Lee E. Casa, the Campus Administrator, delivered her opening remarks focusing on the significance of holding a Family Day as an opportunity for everyone to reflect on the importance of spending quality time with our co-workers and colleagues.

The Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Susan O. Dangan, served as the resource speaker who talked about the value of family cohesiveness.

“No matter how small you can be, as part of the organization, you can always share to make your organization rich and to make your family rich.  Hindi man lang sa mga material things we can measure the richness, the happiness of a family. Healthy family cohesion is our strength as a family,” Dr. Dangan said.

The University President, Dr. Editha C. Alfon, served as the inducting officer of the newly elected Teachers and Employees Association (TEA).

“I know that you are working so hard for the improvement of the university. We are well known in the Top 10 for having the most number of accredited programs and we will hope we can maintain the standard. They are working for the ISO re-certification of our university and we are enjoying the fruits of our labor for having our board examinees in the top 10,” Dr. Alfon said during her inspirational message.

The newly hired personnel and the retirees were presented by Dr. Pet Roana B. Batacandolo, HRMO Designate. Certificates and a token were awarded to the retirees as a gesture of appreciation for the meritorious and dedicated services rendered to the university.

The newly inducted TEA President, Dr. Rossandrew B. Villaruel, gave his message to the retirees and Prof. Danilo Dillera responded on behalf of the retirees.

“To all of you, our retirees, congratulation! Capiz State University, specifically, Pontevedra, is always open to you, and CapSU is always grateful for the services that you have rendered. You are part of our family,” Dr. Villaruel stated.

Meanwhile, Dr. Carmelo Adrian Almeida, Medical Officer III, did the health check and discussed some of the common illnesses and their underlying symptoms. He emphasized that he is always open to catering to the consultation needs of the faculty and staff.

Finally, during team building activities, Laro ng Lahi games were prepared. There were four (4) color-coded groups competing. In the Cheer Dance competition, Red Team was declared champion, while Yellow Team won in Sack Race and Dakop2 Baboy. Blue Team was hailed overall champion as the team emerged victorious in Tug of War, Saw-a Itlog Ko, and Crab Tying.

GURO Ka, Hindi GURO Lamang

Kumusta ang ilang dekadang pakikibaka?

Ilang pangarap na ba ang naitaguyod at naisalba?

Mga pagod na matagal nang humihingi ng pahinga,

Sana ngayon ang pag-asam ay nakamtan na.

 

Pagtuturo - isang propesyon, bokasyon at misyon;

Dito nasusukat ang tibay, pasensya at determinasyon.

Laba’y sinusuong kahit walang ibang proteksyon

Mga kabataan mabigyan lamang ng sapat na edukasyon. 

 

Nagsisilbing tulay sa mga hirayang napagod maghintay,

Tagagabay sa pagtuklas ng panibagong karunungan sa buhay.

Sa kasiyahan at kabiguan sa mga kabataan nagsisilbing karamay,

Ma’am. Sir. Ito ang bukambibig natin sa araw-araw na halos hindi matapos-tapos hanggang sa ating pagtanda. Sina Ma’am at sir na siyang nagbigay ng mga aralin na baon-baon. Sina Ma’am at sir na humubog sa ating mga kakayahan. Sina Ma’am at sir na nagbigay sa atin ng mga pangaral sa buhay. Sina Ma’am at sir na naging hagdan tungo sa pag-abot sa minimithing pangarap.

Ang salitang 'guro' ay umukit ng kakaibang damdamin sa ating mga puso at tumatak ng kakaibang antas ng paggalang at paghanga. Sila ang tinuturing na pangalawang magulang na nagtuturo sa atin na laging piliing tahakin ang tamang landas sa pamamagitan ng kanilang mga pangaral at paggabay na nagpapaalala sa atin sa kung ano nga ba talaga ang naaayon at nararapat.

Mula pagkabata kung saan kababakasan ng kawalang alam at pagiging inosente hanggang sa kasalukuyan nating kilalagyan kung saan nagkaroon ng muwang sa sitwasyon ng mundong ginagalawan,  ang ating mga guro ang laging nariyan upang ialay ang sarili at ibahagi ang angking kaalaman sa bawat isa sa atin. Maraming pagkakataon sa kanilang buhay na hindi na nila maasikaso ang kanilang sarili matugunan lamang ang mga pangangailangan sa paaralan at magampanan ang propesyong nakatakda.

Sa pag-unlad ng isang bansa, tiyak na malaki ang kontribusyon ng bawat guro. Sabi nga nila, “Teaching is the profession that creates all other professions.” Sila ang puno’t dulo ng lahat ng taong nakatungtong sa kani-kanilang sariling propesyon. Paulit-ulit man kung pakinggan subalit ang katotohanang ito ay mahirap mapasusubalian. Walang doktor na gumagamot sa atin, walang mga enhenyero na gumagawa ng mga gusali, walang piloto na magpapalipad ng eroplano, at iba pang trabaho na siyang nagpapalago sa ekonomiya ng bansa kung walang gurong humulma at humubog sa kanila.

Bilang pangalawang magulang, ang ating mga guro ang maituturing na susi sa ating mga pangarap.  Magulang man natin ang unang tumulong sa atin na mamulat sa mundo at nagsusustento sa ating pang-araw-araw na pangangailangan, ngunit ang ating mga guro ang siyang gumising sa ating natutulog na kakayahan at nagbukas sa ating kaisipan na siya namang naging sandata sa pag-abot sa hinahangad na pangarap. Sila ang mga susi sa bawat pintuan ng ating pansariling kakayahan kung saan nagagawa nating matuklasan at mahubog ang ating mga potensyal nang malaya, malikhain, at buong-buo.

Sa pagdiriwang sa natatanging araw ng ating mga guro, nawa ay maipadama natin ang ating taos-pusong pasasalamat at pagkilala sa lahat ng sakripisyo at pagmamahal na walang pag-aatubiling iginawad nila sa atin.

Mabuhay ang lahat ng GURO sa mundo. Hangad namin ang lahat ng pagpapala at biyaya ng Maykapal ngayon at sa bukas na darating… Mabuhay kayo!

Fearless Moulders

Teaching profession is no doubt demanding,

Exerted efforts are stretched for learning,

Adequate tasks are time-consuming.

Cogent ways of educating might be depressing, and

Hortative deadlines are absolutely challenging;

Either way, their hard work will be redeemed by

Revitalizing their learners' dreams and

Stimulating them to gleam.

 

Articulate as they may seem,

Rich as they are famed,

Expert as they are named;

 

But behind those aesthetical adjectives,

Repetitive tasks and school works bear them aches,

Ailing their passionate hearts to break.

Valiants in our modern world they are heroes

Educators, teachers, moulders, and mentors, they are called.

SSC, FLP initiate 2-day leadership training

The Supreme Student Council and Future Leaders of the Philippines of Capiz State University – Pontevedra Campus organized the two-day leadership training with the theme Paghanas: Strengthening Leadership Success through Synergy amidst Divisive Society at Capiz State University-Pontevedra, September 13-14.

"Convince your followers, not yourself, not your superior, and not your professor, but your followers that you are worthy of being followed. Always remember that leadership is about growing leaders. Your position is just temporary. Sooner or later, you will be replaced with new leaders thus, you have to walk your talk and serve with passion and commitment and a strong sense of responsibility," Dr. Honey Lee E. Casa, the Campus Administrator, pointed out during her opening remarks.

Participants were randomly divided into seven groups called the unity squads to better develop their leadership and collaboration skills. They were tasked to make their unique cheers and yells and hand-made flags using water-based paints to represent their unity squad.

Meanwhile, Dr. Briddo V. Dorado, retired Professor of CapSU Pontevedra, who served as the first speaker of the training, discussed the parliamentary procedure-- what it is all about, how it is done, the different components, and the execution of its basic classification.

Dr. Harold O. Buenvenida, the second speaker, discussed stress management. He encouraged participants to think in a much deeper sense about how they can handle the pressure being thrown by their respective positions in the different organizations they are connected with.

Mr. John Rey Delos Santos, former FLP president, tackled ‘The 21st Century Leaders Adopting New Normal' on the second day of the training.

The team-building activity highlighted the event. With seven stations, the leadership and team collaboration of each unity squad was tested and strengthened. They have to think critically, plan purposively, and act carefully to surpass and gain the highest points possible for each obstacle.

Participating leaders were able to share their insights and reflections about the two-day leadership training. Their takeaways will serve as their guide to effectively function as student leaders. 

Dr. Aleta Rose A. Onglatco, the Chair of the Office of Student Services, emphasized in her closing remarks that the true essence of leadership is to empower others to become leaders.
