To strengthen the alliances, camaraderie and relations among the Bachelor of Science in Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering students from various universities within the Visayas Region, the Philippine Society of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineers Pre-Professional Group conducted its 4th Visayas-Wide Annual Convention organized by Capiz State University PSABE – PPG Pontevedra Chapter on March 1-4.
A total of 137 participants from different universities attended: 75 from CapSU Pontevedra with Engr. Abelardo Bermejo Jr. - PSABE PPG Visayas Island Adviser, Engr. Kenny Jhon Ballera - PSABE PPG Pontevedra Chapter Adviser, Engr. Francis Belle Lampong - Program Coordinator, Engr. Sandra Balsote, Engr. Bonifacio Hontiveros, Engr. Marty Delfin and Engr. Christian Dave Rone; 11 delegates from CapSU Burias with Engr. Monalyn Oloroso and Engr. Caren Borres; 32 from Central Philippine University with Engr. Levi De Los Santos Jr; 19 delegates from the University of Eastern Philippines with Engr. Merewina Llanie Tapong.
The event centered on the theme "One Visayas: Fortifying Alliances of AB innovators Towards Leading the Agricultural and Technological Revolution" and was held at Governor’s Hall Capiz Provincial Capitol and Maria's Village and Aquafarm Culajao, Roxas City, Capiz.
"Congratulations to the men and women behind the 4th Visayas - Wide Annual Convention of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineers Pre-Professional Group Visayas Chapter. You are the instruments in attaining food security in the agricultural sector. You'll be instrumental in using scientific technology to design more machines to help farmers in the future to do their job easily," Dr Editha C. Alfon, CapSU President in her inspirational message.
On the 1st day of the event, Engr. Crestituto C. Mangaoang, ASEAN Engr. and Board of Trustees - PSABE National led the talk on Championing PSABE Through Value Transformation and True Leadership.
“You are agricultural [and biosystems] engineers, you are most relevant when the scenario that I am bringing to your attention comes in, because it is you who will feed our people. We need machines and other agricultural machinery, that’s why you are very important. You are the future of this country because the survival of our country and the Filipino people rest in the hands of our agricultural [and biosystems] engineers,” Hon. Fredenil Castro, Capiz Provincial Governor in his inspirational message.
PSABE-PPG gathered at the seafood night; Ms Xyril Alexi Villarin, president of the PSABE-PPG Visayas Chapter ignited the bonfire and the 1st day of the event ended through ABE socialization with the theme "Dali na kag mag-upod, kilalaha ang abyan nga matuod".
Engr. Alexis T. Belonio, Chief Agricultural and Biosystems Engineer, delivered his talk on the second day about Rice Husk Biochar Production Utilization and Carbon Sequestration. Different contests were carried out where CapSU Pontevedra won 1st Place in Esports Mobile Legend, 1st Place in Call of Duty, and Champagne Diaz as Ms. PSABE - PPG Visayas 2023 during the ABE Gawad Parangal on the third day.
The delegates visited different tourist spots in Capiz namely: Heritage sites, Palina Greenbelt Ecopark, Kapis Atbp., Sta. Monica Parish Church, Banica Dried Fish Market, Pabitbit Pasalubong Center, and Statue of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Shrine during the last day of the convention.
